Some adults make New Year's resolutions that they will never keep beyond the month of January. Practical goals to improve a diet may be more attainable.

New Year’s resolutions that are focused on dieting can be outrageous. Men and women who have not maintained healthy diet habits in previous years may find many of their short term goals to be unrealistic. Here are a few New Year’s diet resolutions for adults that can easily be practiced every month.

Drink Less Alcohol

If water and real fruit juices are healthier for adults, why do some men and women still opt for alcoholic beverages? While they may taste good, help to forget troubles or end a stressful day, beverages that contain alcohol do more harm than good. Heavy use of cocktails or liquor can lead to a variety of health problems, making less alcohol one resolution worth keeping.

Make More Home-Cooked Meals

Health magazines are constantly publishing articles that reveal high amounts of calories, sodium and fat in popular restaurant meals. This is one reason why adults can benefit from cooking their own meals at home. There are healthy recipes for modified versions of many favorite restaurant style lunches, dinners and dessert. These recipes come with a great taste but without all of the unhealthy ingredients.

Restaurant alternatives can be easily found by doing an online search for recipes similar to favorite menu items. Home-cooked meals can give adults the peace of mind in knowing what is in their food. These meals can also be made to last for days. Long lasting home cooked meals are one of a few New Years diet resolutions that also help adults save money.

Replace Whole Milk

Adults who prefer to reduce their fat intake can start by using alternatives to whole milk as one of their New Year’s diet resolutions. Try skimmed milk or soy milk, which can reduce unnecessary saturated fats at the very least. Those who do not want to change drinking habits in this category can also modify this New Year’s diet resolution.

Lower the amount of flavored milks consumed throughout the year. Skipping flavored milk options can reduce weight gain, helping adults to maintain a healthy diet.

Eat three Full Meals on a Daily Basis

Adult men and women who follow a routine of eating three meals every day may be less likely to consume unhealthy snacks. Make time for breakfast, lunch and dinner to avoid overeating which can lead to weight gain. Advance meal planning is also beneficial because adults may be likely to settle for fast food if they already have a meal prepared.
